Something for Nothing

Joshua 1:8

We now live in a “I want something for nothing” society.  And we all stand up and boldly state that this is a rediculous and absurd way for us to think, but wait a minute.  Should we not check the mote in our own eye before we try and take the splinter out of someone else’s eye?  As Christians, too many times this what we do with God?  We pray and ask God for small things or even His Will for our lives, yet we fail to even do the simplest things He has asked us to do for Him.  God desires us to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:28), yet to do that we have to know His Son.  To know His Son, we must read the Word of God, yet many times that is the last thing on our agenda to make sure happens.  ”We have too much going on…”  Not an excuse…. That is always going to be the case, yet we use that excuse and then wonder why God is not giving us our answers right away.  Give you an example and I am done….  If I had a teen, who every time I asked them to do something for me, ignored me and shrugged their shoulders and acted as if they didn’t care what I said, eventually I would….what?…. Stop telling them to do something knowing that it isn’t worth my breath.  Can we not turn this around and look at it from God’s perspective?  God wants us to know His Will for our lives, and we ask Him over and over to show it to us.  The problem comes when He looks back and says…”You haven’t even accomplished the little things that I have already asked you to do.  Why should I show you the big things?”  Until we are ready to do the little things, how can we expect God to show us the big things.  ”Something for Nothing.”
